Welcome to my blog

I’ve been thinking about starting a personal blog for a while now (and by a while, I mean like four years) and I just now got around to actually doing it. I plan on writing about whatever happens to pop into my head. If you’ve ever spent more than two minutes with me, you can probably deduce that this means there will be a heavy emphasis on sports. I’ll write about some other stuff, too, though. Probably. Maybe.

Hopefully you’ll find this blog entertaining, interesting and informative. My posts are going to be all over the place in terms of structure and tone. Some are going to be heavily researched, some are going to be purely opinion and some are going to be just a mishmash of random thoughts. Some will be serious and some will be funny (at least to me). Some will be structured columns and some will just be lists — I really like to rank stuff, so expect lots of power rankings, sports-related or otherwise.

Now that you have some semblance of an idea of what this blog is going to be about (and honestly, that’s all I have at this point, too), I should explain why I decided to call it “The Boston Rambler.” For one, it pretty much describes me perfectly. I’m from Boston and I like to ramble. But it’s also a play on a great Rolling Stones song (there will probably be a lot of music references — mostly classic rock — in my posts). “Midnight Rambler” (if you’ve never heard it, listen to this live version from 1969) is based in part on the Boston Strangler — one of Boston’s most notorious criminals. So I thought it was a pretty good fit for me. Well, the Boston, Rambler and Rolling Stones parts. Not so much the Strangler, rapist and murderer parts.

I’ll probably get my first real post up sometime in the next couple days. I was thinking about doing a John Wooden tribute, but there are so many great articles and videos already out there today that I’m not sure what else I could possibly say. I think current UCLA coach Ben Howland put it best: “He’s probably one of the greatest examples ever of how to live a life.”

But for now, I’m off to another cookout and another party. I love summer.
